Solana (SOL) trading hours, supply and how it moves

Solana (SOL) trades 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on crypto exchanges, including weekends and UK bank holidays. Broker CFDs on SOL typically follow the broker's server clock and some pause at weekends: IG, for example, closes its crypto CFDs from 22:00 Friday to 08:00 Saturday UK time. CME Group futures on it trade around the clock apart from a weekly maintenance window of about two hours.

Clock changes

Crypto exchanges do not change their hours for clock changes, because they never close. What shifts is the UK time of US events and of your broker's server clock. US clocks went back on 1 November 2026 and UK clocks on 25 October 2026, so for that week US data and the US stock open came an hour earlier in UK time (US open 13:30 UK). In 2027 the US moves forward on 14 March and the UK on 28 March, opening the same gap for two weeks.

What is Solana (SOL)?

Solana is a public blockchain built for fast, low-cost transactions. Apps for trading, payments, games and tokens run on it, and SOL is the coin used to pay network fees and to stake (lock up coins to help secure the network and earn a reward).

Solana's main network went live in beta in March 2020. It runs on Proof of Stake, with a built-in clock called Proof of History that orders transactions before validators vote on them. Supply: No fixed maximum. New SOL is issued to stakers on an inflation schedule that started at 8% a year and steps down each year towards a long-run 1.5%, while half of each transaction's base fee is burned (destroyed). Like all crypto, SOL is highly volatile: moves of several percent in a day are common and much larger falls have happened. This page explains how it trades, not whether to buy it.

The trading sessions

00:00 to 08:00 UKAsian session

SOL trades, often with quieter conditions unless news breaks in Asia.

08:00 to 16:30 UKLondon session

European traders add volume; moves often test levels set overnight.

14:30 to 21:00 UKUS session

US data, ETF and stock market flows typically make this the most active part of the day for big coins.

Friday night to Sunday night UKWeekend

Exchanges stay open with thinner liquidity; some broker CFDs pause, so a gap can appear when they reopen.

Contract facts

One point or pip

Priced in US dollars per SOL. The number of decimal places varies by broker and exchange.

Typical CFD lot

Varies by broker. Check the contract size (coins per lot) in your broker's specification before trading.

What a point is worth

On a position of 10 SOL, a move of 1.00 in the SOL price changes the position's value by 10 USD.

Exchange futures

CME Group lists Solana futures in two sizes: 500 SOL and a micro contract of 25 SOL (trading since 17 March 2025). They are cash settled and, since June 2026, trade around the clock on CME Globex apart from a weekly maintenance window of about two hours at the weekend.

How far it usually moves

Varies widely and changes with the market; check the Average daily range indicator on the SOL chart.

What moves Solana (SOL)

Network activity

Busy periods for apps and new token launches on Solana raise demand for SOL to pay fees.

Network outages

Solana has had full network halts in its history (several in 2022), and any outage or slowdown tends to hit the price fast.

Bitcoin's direction

Most large coins tend to move in the same direction as Bitcoin, especially on big days.

US interest rates

Expectations for Federal Reserve rate decisions affect appetite for risky assets, including crypto.

Regulation

Rulings, laws and enforcement actions on crypto in the US and elsewhere can move the whole market quickly.

Exchange and hack news

Exchange failures, hacks or big liquidations of leveraged positions can cause sharp falls across coins.

Large coins often rise and fall together with Ethereum, though not every day.

Tips for trading Solana (SOL)

1

Mark the weekend gap

If your broker pauses SOL CFDs at the weekend, mark Friday's last price. When it reopens, a big gap from that level is information, not a signal on its own. The idea that price will fill the gap is proved wrong if it closes a full candle beyond the reopening level in the direction of the gap.

2

Watch Bitcoin first

Before a long trade on SOL, check that Bitcoin is not breaking down at the same time. A long that relies on strength across crypto is proved wrong if Bitcoin closes below its own recent swing low.

3

Respect the daily range

Crypto ranges are wide and change a lot. Use the Average daily range indicator to size stops in points, not a fixed guess. A breakout idea is proved wrong if price falls back inside the range it broke and closes there.

4

Trade the levels

Previous day high and low and round numbers often draw reactions. A bounce from a level is proved wrong when a candle closes through it by more than your stop distance.

5

Size down for volatility

SOL often moves further in percentage terms than gold or US30 in a day. Use a smaller size so a normal swing does not hit your stop. If your stop is being hit by ordinary noise, the size or stop placement is wrong, not just the trade.

WickSpeak's SOL chart works with no broker connected, and if your cTrader broker offers SOL you can view it at your broker's own prices. Questions traders ask

Can you trade Solana at the weekend?

Yes. SOL trades 24/7 on crypto exchanges, including Saturdays and Sundays. Broker CFDs are different: some pause for part of the weekend, such as IG from 22:00 Friday to 08:00 Saturday UK time. Check your broker's hours, which follow its server clock.

What is the best time to trade Solana?

There is no single best time, because SOL never closes. Activity often rises during US stock market hours (14:30 to 21:00 UK) and around US data releases. Weekends and the early Asian hours are typically thinner, which can mean wider spreads.

What is the maximum supply of SOL?

No fixed maximum. New SOL is issued to stakers on an inflation schedule that started at 8% a year and steps down each year towards a long-run 1.5%, while half of each transaction's base fee is burned (destroyed).

Is Solana risky to trade?

Yes. SOL is highly volatile and can move a long way in minutes, especially with leverage. CFDs on crypto can lose money quickly. WickSpeak is a charting and analysis tool and does not give financial advice.

Are there Solana futures?

CME Group lists Solana futures in two sizes: 500 SOL and a micro contract of 25 SOL (trading since 17 March 2025). They are cash settled and, since June 2026, trade around the clock on CME Globex apart from a weekly maintenance window of about two hours at the weekend.
