Trading hours
EUR/GBP typically trades from Sunday 22:00 to Friday 22:00 UK time (5pm to 5pm New York time), with no daily break beyond a brief pause at some brokers around the 22:00 UK rollover. Times on your chart follow your broker's server clock.
| When | UK time | New York time | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekly open | Sunday 22:00 (21:00 in the gap weeks) | Sunday 17:00 | Typically, at most CFD brokers. Wellington and Sydney are already in their Monday morning. Spreads are often wide in the first minutes and there can be a gap from Friday's close. |
| Daily rollover | 22:00 each weekday (21:00 in the gap weeks) | 17:00 | The trading day ends and overnight financing (swap) is charged. There is typically no long break, but spreads widen for a few minutes and some brokers pause quotes briefly. |
| Friday close | Friday 22:00 (21:00 in the gap weeks) | Friday 17:00 | Typically. Many brokers stop a few minutes early, for example Pepperstone closes all markets 5 minutes early on Fridays. Closed all of Saturday. |
| Busiest hours | 07:00 to 11:00 | 02:00 to 06:00 | Typically. The London morning, when UK and eurozone data come out and European banks are most active. |
Forex hours follow New York time: the week opens on Sunday and closes on Friday at 5pm New York time. For most of the year that is 22:00 UK. The US and UK change clocks on different Sundays, so in the gap weeks it is 21:00 UK. In autumn 2026 the UK moved back on 25 October and the US on 1 November; in spring 2027 the US moves forward on 14 March and the UK on 28 March, so from 14 to 28 March the open, close and rollover are at 21:00 UK and US data at 8:30am New York time lands at 12:30 UK instead of 13:30. European releases (UK, eurozone and Swiss) stay at the same UK time all year, because those countries change clocks on the same dates as the UK. Times on your broker's chart follow its server clock, which many brokers set to GMT+2 in winter and GMT+3 in summer so the daily candle starts at the 5pm New York rollover. Check your broker's own contract page.
What is EUR/GBP?
EUR/GBP shows how many British pounds one euro buys. If it reads 0.8700, one euro costs 0.87 pounds. It pairs the currencies of two neighbouring economies that trade heavily with each other, so their news often pulls them the same way and the pair moves in smaller steps than EUR/USD or GBP/USD.
Because both currencies live in European hours, EUR/GBP does most of its moving between about 07:00 and 11:00 UK time. It tends to swing between levels for weeks at a time, and the big moves usually come when the Bank of England and the European Central Bank are expected to take different paths on interest rates.
The trading sessions
Usually very quiet. EUR/GBP often moves only a handful of pips before Europe wakes up, and spreads can be wider than in the day.
The main event. UK data at 07:00 and eurozone data from 07:00 to 10:00 UK set the tone, and the Asian range is often tested in the first hour.
Moves often slow once European desks close. US data at 13:30 UK can jolt both currencies, but often by similar amounts, so EUR/GBP may barely react.
Typically the busiest stretch for EUR/GBP, with UK and eurozone data, central bank speeches and European bank flows.
Contract facts
One pip is 0.0001 (the fourth decimal place). Most brokers quote one more decimal, a tenth of a pip, often called a pipette or point.
1 standard lot = 100,000 euros (the first currency in the pair). A mini lot (0.1) is 10,000 and a micro lot (0.01) is 1,000.
One pip (0.0001) on 1 standard lot is worth 10 pounds (100,000 x 0.0001). On a mini lot (0.1) it is 1 pound and on a micro lot (0.01) it is 0.10 pounds. Your platform converts it to your account currency at the current rate.
CME Group lists a EUR/GBP cross rate future (symbol RP) of 125,000 euros per contract, but most EUR/GBP trading happens in the spot market between banks and through CFDs.

What moves EUR/GBP
When traders expect the ECB to hold rates higher for longer, the euro tends to firm against pound.
German and eurozone inflation, PMI surveys and growth figures shift those ECB expectations.
Expectations for UK interest rates are the biggest single driver of the pound.
UK inflation, wages, jobs and monthly GDP, all released at 07:00 UK, move the pound before London is fully awake.
Trade talks, tariffs and political news between the UK and the EU tend to move the pound more than the euro, so they show up in EUR/GBP.
The pair reacts most when one central bank sounds tougher on inflation than the other; when both say the same thing it often goes quiet.
Scheduled events to watch
Sets eurozone interest rates for the euro side of EUR/GBP; eight meetings a year, next on 17 December 2026, then 4 February and 18 March 2027.
Sets UK interest rates for the pound side of EUR/GBP; eight a year, the next after today (5 November) is 17 December 2026, then 4 February and 18 March 2027.
Released by Eurostat around the start of each month; a surprise changes what traders expect from the ECB.
Published monthly by the Office for National Statistics, usually mid month; a surprise moves Bank of England expectations at once.
Business surveys published around the third week of the month, the earliest read on how the eurozone economy is doing.
Monthly from the ONS; wage growth is watched closely by the Bank of England.
What it tends to move with
EUR/GBP often rises when EUR/USD rises faster than GBP/USD, because it is simply EUR/USD divided by GBP/USD.
Pound strength against the dollar tends to show up as EUR/GBP falling, unless the euro is rallying just as hard.
A weaker pound (higher EUR/GBP) has often gone with a firmer FTSE 100, because many FTSE companies earn abroad, but the link is loose.
Tips for trading EUR/GBP
Fade the edges of a range
EUR/GBP often spends weeks between two levels. A rejection candle at the top of the range is a short idea aiming at the middle; a daily close above the range top proves it wrong.
Watch the 07:00 UK data
UK inflation and jobs land at 07:00. If you trade the reaction, wait for the first 15 minute candle to close and treat a close back through its midpoint as the move failing.
Mind the narrow ranges
EUR/GBP's moves are usually smaller than EUR/USD's, so a stop sized for EUR/USD can be far too wide here. If your stop is bigger than the pair's average daily range, the setup is too loose.
Central bank days
On a Bank of England or ECB day, a break of the morning high or low after the decision is a trend idea; a close back inside the morning range by 16:00 UK proves it wrong.
Spread at the rollover
Spreads widen around 22:00 UK. A tight stop left overnight can be hit by the spread alone, so either widen it to a structure level or close before the rollover.

Questions traders ask
What are EUR/GBP trading hours in the UK?
EUR/GBP typically trades from Sunday 22:00 to Friday 22:00 UK time, which is 5pm Sunday to 5pm Friday in New York. In the few weeks when the US and UK clocks change on different dates, the open and close are at 21:00 UK. It does not trade on Saturdays.
What is the best time to trade EUR/GBP?
Typically 07:00 to 11:00 UK time, when UK and eurozone data are released and European banks are active. After about 16:00 UK the pair usually goes quiet, and during the Asian session it often barely moves.
Why does EUR/GBP move so slowly?
The UK and the eurozone are close trading partners, so much of their news pushes the euro and the pound the same way, and the moves cancel out in EUR/GBP. It moves most when the Bank of England and the ECB are expected to do different things.
Is EUR/GBP good for beginners?
Its smaller daily moves can make it calmer to learn on, but small moves also mean costs like the spread take a bigger share of each trade. Check your broker's spread against the pair's average daily range before deciding.
How much is 1 pip on EUR/GBP worth?
On 1 standard lot of 100,000 euros, one pip (0.0001) is worth 10 pounds. On 0.1 lots it is 1 pound and on 0.01 lots it is 0.10 pounds. Your platform shows it in your account currency at the current rate.
